The Fear of Divorced Dating

There once was a time when being divorced meant being not only without a spouse, but also without the moral support of others. Friends, family, and most churches would simply turn their backs on people who left their spouse, no matter what the reason. Since that time things have changed. The women's movement, along with other equality-seeking movements helped to bring about a consciousness that today has even found an acceptance with divorced dating.
Divorced dating, that is, seeing other people -and sometimes even marrying again, has been in vogue and accepted since at least the early eighties, and earlier in other places. While some traditionalists scolded society for their acceptance of separation and divorce, they held tighter to the reigns of control when it came to seeking a new lover and ultimately, spouse.
Today divorced dating is quite prominent and there is no social stigma (save for the most traditional-bound pockets of society), or shame. Many people of all ages are enjoying the joys of discovering new people as they rediscover their own inhibitions and secret joys. Yet there does remain a certain level of shame in some cultures. Let's examine this feeling.
The philosopher Hegel learned over a century ago that history follows a certain interesting pattern. Hegel showed that one idea might be in vogue and in power for a period of time, while concurrently there existed a smaller, not necessarily opposite, but certainly oppositional viewpoint amongst a minority of people. As things do, the number of people who subscribed to the more widely accepted viewpoint eventually subsided and gave way to the new idea.
In time the new idea would be the predominant idea (this is very common with religious, philosophical, and material ideas, such as the Earth being flat). However, now that the once weak idea was now in power, a third idea began to spring up, which in essence was a compromise between the first two ideas. This too would gain in notoriety and popularity, until it too was the dominant idea, only to be slowly usurped by a fourth idea. And so on.
The point to this philosophical lesson is that people change their minds, individually and societally. So too must individuals who are divorced yet are too embarrassed to enter the realm of divorced dating, because of the surprisingly shocking number of marriages that end in divorce. Scandalized, these people take these ideas upon their shoulders in an attempt to rectify the perceived wrongs of an entire society. This is futile. Go out, live! Date! It's that simple, and it's simple to follow through with. Have fun.
